High School Debate Camp

Monday, June 24, 2024 - Friday, June 28, 2024

Why attend the William Jewell College Debate Camp?

Facilitators' pedigree. The camp will be facilitated by current debaters at Jewell, who in high school made it to outrounds of the TOC, NSDA and NCFL. That success has continued in college, having staff that has not only qualified for nationals, but been very competitive at nationals, having a team of freshman finish 4th in the country last year. Jewell's program has a long history of being nationally competitive, winning four national championships in the last 20 years, most recently in 2016.

Skills-based approach. This camp is for all formats and skill levels with a direct focus on improving the capabilities of each and every student attending. Jewell does a form of debate called parliamentary debate, which can be most accurately described as a combination of extemporaneous and policy debate without formal cards. This puts the debaters here at Jewell in a really unique position to help you. The hardest thing to practice, what all debate formats have, and what separates the good debaters from the best debaters, is rebuttals. Jewell's debate camp will put you in the best position to get better at the most difficult and most important part of debate. This camp is not a policy, public forum, Lincoln-Douglas or World Schools camp. We at Jewell believe that these critical thinking skills will greatly improve your success not only in the upcoming debate season but in the rest of your life as well.

Cost. Jewell's debate camp is the most competitively priced option, offering an experience that will give students the skills to crush the competition next year.

Full camp schedule will be released in early May.

Cost is $450 for instruction, double-occupancy dorm room, meals and T-shirt.
