The wearing and acknowledgement of cords or medallions with regalia of graduating seniors at William Jewell College is normally reserved for students with academic honors, and for students who belong to honor societies which require an academically competitive selection process.
Cords, medallions or pins representing groups or societies that are not honor societies may be worn if approved by the Vice President of Academic Affairs; however, these organizations or societies will not be acknowledged in the program.
The VP of Academic Affairs, in consultation with department chairs, approves which cords and/or medallions may be worn at the graduation ceremony. The annual deadline for submitting a proposal to add a cord or medallion (academic honor, honor society, and other) is March 1. Proposals must include the name of the organization, its purpose, a description of the cord, medallion, or pin to be worn, the name of the faculty sponsor and the name of a point of contact (this may be the faculty sponsor or a student leader).
