Computer Acceptable Use Policy
Statement of Privilege:
William Jewell College provides computing, networking, and electronic resources to facilitate academic and administrative functions in alignment with the institution's mission. Access to these resources is granted to students, faculty, and staff as a privilege associated with their affiliation with the College.

Statement of Unauthorized Use

  • Users must adhere to the College's policies and practices regarding the use of technology resources.
  • Unauthorized access to College computer resources or attempts to breach system security are strictly prohibited.
  • Use of College technology for illegal activities, unauthorized commercial purposes, or activities that disrupt system functionality is prohibited.
  • Transmission of William Jewell College proprietary information without authorization is prohibited.
  • Users are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality and security of their accounts and information.
  • Unauthorized access to IT infrastructure including (but not limited to) wireless access points, internet access points, internet switches, or servers are strictly prohibited.

Email Use of Resources and Standards of Etiquette

Resource Usage:

  • College-issued email accounts and resources are designated for College-related activities only.
  • Users are individually responsible for the appropriate use of their accounts, including password protection and adherence to College policies.
  • College email resources must not be used for intimidating or harassing communications, fraudulent activities, or dissemination of inappropriate content.

Account Management and Monitoring:

  • Information Technology staff may access user files or emails for system maintenance or investigation of serious incidents.
  • Violations of email guidelines may result in immediate suspension of network login privileges, subject to the judgment of the Director of Information Technology and/or Chief Information Officer (CIO).
  • Email usage for commercial purposes is generally prohibited, with exceptions for approved campus-wide communications or fundraisers for recognized organizations.

College Issued Technology Terms and Conditions

Ownership and Responsibility:

  • All College-issued technology devices and software are the property of William Jewell College.
  • Users are financially responsible for damage, vandalism, or loss of College-issued devices.
  • Faculty and staff receive technology devices as part of their employment, and these devices must be returned in good condition upon leaving the College. Failure to return devices may result in deductions from the final paycheck and account deactivation.

This policy combines and updates existing guidelines to align with modern security best practices and standards, promoting responsible use of College technology resources.
