The Tuition Assistance plan supports staff employed by the College in approved work- related advanced study programs. Its purpose is to encourage the individual to develop increased competence in the field related to the staff member’s responsibilities and career at William Jewell College.

To be eligible for tuition assistance, staff members must have completed one year of service with at least 75% status at William Jewell College and receive advanced approval from their respective Cabinet member. In instances where the staff member is pursuing an approved course of study toward an advanced degree, the College will reimburse, upon the successful completion of study, 100% of tuition and fees incurred not to exceed $1,200 per term or $3,600 per fiscal year. The costs of books, supplies, travel, secretarial support, and other expenses shall be borne by the employee and will not be reimbursed by the College.

Staff members requesting assistance must submit a proposed course of study on the “Request for Tuition Assistance for William Jewell College Staff” form and receive all the required signatures before a request is considered approved. They will be notified in writing by the Office of Human Resources if the request is approved. Tuition will be reimbursed at the end of each term through payroll upon submission of a copy of the tuition billing and proof of successful course completion.

Employees must be on the Jewell payroll at the end of the term in which the course is taken to qualify for tuition reimbursement for that term. If an employee terminates employment with Jewell within one year after receiving tuition assistance under this program, the College reserves the right to require reimbursement for the last term attended prior to termination. Required reimbursements not repaid to the College will be deducted from the employee’s final paycheck to the extent allowable by law.

Deadline for applications: March 1 for the following academic year as this has budget implications for any courses that would be reimbursed.
