Contact: Information Technology
Purpose: The purpose of this policy is to secure and protect the information and assets owned by William Jewell College and personal information traveling on the William Jewell wireless network.
Scope: This policy shall apply to all members of the College community, including faculty, students, administrators, staff, alumni, authorized guests, delegates and independent contractors (the “User(s)” or “you”) who use, access, or otherwise employ, locally or remotely, the College’s IT resources, whether individually controlled, shared, standalone, or networked.
Policy:
- The "Jewell" network is for use by authorized Users for personally owned devices and College owned devices that are not centrally managed. User authentication and authorization is required before accessing the "Jewell" wireless network. Although connections are encrypted on this network, the College provides no guarantees of privacy.
- The "JewellGuest" (non-authenticated wireless service) provides visitors with unprotected and insecure access to the Internet for basic web browsing and is limited to Internet-available services.
- Users must not use this network to exchange sensitive or personal information.
- The "JewellAdmin" network is reserved for College owned and centrally managed devices that are authenticated using device-specific credentials. Users will not be able to connect to this network with User credentials. Connections are encrypted and monitored to protect sensitive College information.
- The College monitors the wireless networks for interfering devices to ensure reliable access.
- The College reserves the right to restrict/remove device access to the wireless networks to prevent Users from infecting, degrading or otherwise negatively impacting IT resources.
- Users must not install a personal wireless Access Point or any device that interferes with the College’s wireless IT resources.
- Should any such device be detected, the College notifies the User and the User is then required to disable and remove the device from the network. If the User does not promptly disable the device, the College reserves the right to disconnect the device from the network.
- The College may install, support or authorize additional wireless networks as required to support the functions of the College and third-party affiliates of the College. Users are generally not authorized to access these additional networks unless this authorization is specifically granted.
