Be a Mentor
Give back to Jewell by serving as a Career Mentor, sharing your knowledge, experience and connections to help students on their path to meaningful lives.
The program pairs career professionals with Jewell sophomores, juniors and seniors for a semester-long experience that operates like a sustained job shadowing opportunity.
Since 1985, more than 1,000 students have been paired with career mentors, exploring jobs while still in school to confirm or change their career path. They also complete the program with a strong network of alumni who can help them with professional decisions after graduation.
Students begin the program by interviewing with the Career Mentor Commission, who matches students with an alumni mentor who will best suit their needs. During the semester, mentors meet with students up to six times, typically at the mentor’s place of work. When possible, mentors allow students to attend staff meetings and participate in true work situations. At the end of the semester, students, mentors and commission members gather to reflect on the experience.
If you are interested in participating as a career mentor or as a member of the Career Mentor Commission, please contact Marissa Bland at blandm@william.jewell.edu or Kelsey Hildebrandt in the Office of Alumni Relations at alumni@william.jewell.edu.
